BERKELEY - The California Girls Soccer Camps - under the direction of Golden Bear head coach Neil McGuire and assistant coach Cori Alexander - convene on the Cal campus starting next week. There is still room in two of the camps, though the most popular sessions - the College ID Camp and Junior Academy - are sold out.
The Full and Half-Day Camps as well as the Goalkeeper/Striker take place at the Underhill Field located at the corner of College Avenue and Channing Way. Along with McGuire and Alexander - the camps' director - the coaching staff will include some current Cal players and a collection of other college and club coaches from around the country.
The Full and Half-Day Camps run from June 17-21, July 8-12 and July 15-19, and are aimed at players ages 5-15. In these camps, the coaching staff emphasizes the technical pillars of soccer as well as teamwork to build upon the campers' soccer foundations. The day camps are geared toward local players of a variety of age and skill levels, while grouping players accordingly. The goal is to give the campers the best overall soccer experience to inspire them as they pursue their soccer careers.
The Goalkeeper/Striker Camp takes place from June 29-30 for ages 8-18. Strikers will work on various aspects of how to finish in front of the goal, and how to finish under game-like pressure. Specifically, campers will work on attacking moves to create shooting lanes, posting up and turning on defenders, as well as the technical aspects of driving, chipping and bending the ball, which are the skills the best finishers in the world focus on. For goalkeepers, campers will work on proper footwork across the goal, handling all types of shots, proper diving techniques, and how to deal with crosses, 1v1's, and through balls. Come develop your skills and take your game to the next level with the Cal coaches and players!
