BERKELEY - In a season highlighted by a second straight MPSF Player of the Year award and becoming Cal's all-time career leader in goals, senior Megan Takacs earned a spot on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association West/Midwest Region First Team for the second straight year, the organization announced on Tuesday. The 2012 and 2013 MPSF Player of the Year, Takacs paced the Golden Bears in goals (52), points (58), shots (107) and draws (72). The 52 goals were one shy of her school single-season record of 53 in 2012.
Takacs is now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 17. The IWLCA will honor the national All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on May 25 in King of Prussia, Pa.
Takacs, who also earned her third straight All-MPSF first-team honor last week, scored four times and posted 11 draw controls at Fresno State on March 19, earning MPSF Offensive Player of the Week honors in the process. She scored six times against UC Davis and five times at San Diego State, and also collected six points (four goals, two assists) at Yale. The native of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, finished the season ranked seventh in goals per game and 14th in draws in the national rankings. Takacs ended the regular season leading the conference in goals per game and shots per game, while rankings second in draws.
