STANFORD - California had a rough day at the Stanford Golf Course Friday morning and sits 14 strokes shy of an NCAA Championship qualifying spot entering Saturday's final day of competition at the NCAA West Regional.

The Bears sit 17th overall at 41-over (297-312=609) after Thursday's promising start was met with a Friday round that was 28 over par. Senior Joi Pentin, who returned to the lineup this weekend for the first time since the Spartan Invitational (March 4-5), led the Bears Friday with a 77 (+6) Friday. Pentin carded one of two birdies on the day for the Bears with her birdie on the par-5 first hole and finished the day at six over after seeing successive bogeys on the 16th, 17th and 18th to end the day.

Junior Nicola Rössler carded the other birdie of the day and also shot a 77 to move her 36-hole total to 73-77=150 (+8). Rössler started with a birdie on the fourth but was derailed with a triple-bogey on the par-3 eighth, a hole that she carded a two on in Thursday's opening round. Other than the eighth, Rössler remained solid throughout the round and shot only three bogeys on the back nine to remain in the top 50 individually.

Freshman Hannah Suh shot a 79 Friday to move her 36-hole total to a 149 (+7), good for 40th individually after two rounds. Senior Jacqueline Williams also shot 79 Friday to give her a 36-hole total of 159 (+17). Sophomore Morgan Thompson finished one behind at 80.

The Bears tee off at noon Saturday and will be paired with Denver and UNLV. Jacqueline Wiliams will be the first Bear to tee off on the 10th hole.
