STANFORD - The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team swept its matches in the Stanford Invitational on Sunday, including a 12-6 victory over No. 8 San Jose State in the Third Place game.
Earlier, the Bears defeated No. 11 Hawaii, 10-7.
Sophomore Tiera Schroeder had a huge day for Cal (5-1), scoring eight goals in the two matches. She tallied five scores in the win over Hawaii and three more against the Spartans.
Senior Pippa Saunders scored twice against Hawaii, the first two goals of her college career.
The Bears led just 7-6 entering the fourth quarter against the Rainbow Wahine, but outscored Hawaii 3-1 in the final period to polish off the match. After leading 6-3 at halftime against San Jose State, Cal outscored the Spartans 5-1 in the third quarter to take control.
Freshman goalie Monica Murray made two saves against Hawaii. Sophomore Savanna Smith and junior Briana Lippert split time in goal against the Spartans and made four saves each.
Cal is next in action next Friday and Saturday at the Princeton Invitational.
