FRESNO, Calif. - With her third home run in two games, Cheyenne Cordes powered the No. 6 California Golden Bears to an 11-0, five-inning shutout over the Iowa State Cyclones Friday at Bulldog Stadium.

The sophomore hit a grand slam in the third inning for four RBI to go 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs on the day. Senior Lindsey Ziegenhirt also produced big numbers for the Bears, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI as the team equaled eight hits in the mercy-rule game.

Senior Jolene Henderson (13-2) notched her 109th win, putting her within 10 games of matching California softball's all-time wins leader Michele Granger. Henderson threw a near-perfect one-hit game with two strikeouts and just two walks.

Cordes started the Bears off with a walk, and then advanced to both second and third on passed balls. Junior Alex Robben entered the game after junior Britt Vonk was hit hard by a pitch and stole second on one of the passed balls. Sophomore Danielle Henderson approached the plate, struck out swinging but got to first on yet another passed ball, which also allowed Robben to reach third and Cordes to score. A double from Ziegenhirt two at-bats later sent both Robben and D. Henderson home to put the Bears up three runs in their first inning.

Cal did most of its damage at the top of the third. Sophomore Breana Kostreba got on base with a walk, followed by a single from D. Henderson. J. Henderson reached on an error at Iowa State's third base to load the bases for Ziegenhirt, which she capitalized on for a three RBI double to right center. The bases loaded again quickly as junior Victoria Jones walked and junior Ashley Decker reached on a fielder's choice before freshman Khala Taylor singled and it was back to the top of the order. With a full diamond, Cordes smacked one into left field to give Cal a 10-0 lead.

The Bears added one last run at the top of the fourth after J. Henderson singled to left field, advanced to second and then scored on an RBI single from Decker.

California returns to Bulldog Diamond Saturday afternoon for two games. First up is San Diego State at 3:45 p.m., then an 8:15 p.m. game against Fresno State.
