Sophomore Scott Esparza (hammer) and freshman Ray Stewart took sixth place in the 110-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays to highlight the last of four consecutive days of action for the Golden Bears.
Esparza threw the hammer 196-3 in the invitational section at Stanford for a nearly 15-foot improvement from his initial 2013 effort last week. Esparza owns a career best of 206-3 from last season when he qualified for the NCAA Championship meet.
Cochran, who recorded a mark of 183-0 in the discus Friday, came back on Saturday to post a distance of 55-8.50 in the shot put for his best mark of the year.
After running a wind-aided 13.67 in his qualifying heat yesterday at the Texas Relays, Stewart finished with a wind-aided time of 13.71 to place sixth in the final Saturday. The only other Bears in action Saturday in Austin were high jumpers Nick Ridge (6-10.75) and Harrison Steed (6-8.75).
Back at Stanford, freshman Torie Owers was fifth in the collegiate hammer with a mark of 171-3, while she was 13th in the invitational discus at 140-6.
Cal returns home to Edwards Stadium next Saturday (April 6) to host a tri-meet with Virginia and Michigan. Field events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with action on the track starting at 12 noon.
