SEATTLE, Wash. - Alima Kamara and Ray Stewart blazed to personal bests in the 200 meters and Victoria Rische won flight 1 of the women's pole vault to highlight Cal's performances on the first day of the UW Invitational Friday. The meet continues with a full day of action on Saturday.

Kamara placed seventh overall in the women's 200, but her time of 24.94 lowered her PR in the event by more than half a second. Her result comes one week after setting a meet record in the 600 meters and another indoor PR in the 400 meters at the Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

Stewart took second in the men's competition in his first indoor 200 meters, crossing the line in 21.85. He won his section race to set the standard up until that point, then watched Oregon's Mike Berry run 21.61 in the final section to claim first place. Still, Stewart's time was the fastest for a Golden Bear in the indoor 200 since the 2005 season.

Rische, a freshman from Santa Ana, cleared 12-10.75 in the pole vault to move into ninth place on Cal's all-time performer list. She was perfect on her first three heights, then made it over the bar at 12-10.75 on her third attempt before bowing out at 13-4.50.

In the women's pentathlon, junior Jaci Powell, a transfer from Golden West College, completed the five-event competition in 12th place with 3,469 points. A two-time state JC champion in the outdoor heptathlon, she is first Bear to participate in the pentathlon in five years.
