BERKELEY - The No. 19 California women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Oregon on Friday afternoon at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears (8-3-0, 1-1-0 in the Pac-12) took a 2-0 lead over the Ducks (9-3-0, 1-2-0 Pac-12) into the halftime break en route to their second consecutive shutout. With the win, Cal tallies its first Pac-12 victory of the year after starting the conference season with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Arizona last week.

"The difference between this Friday and last Friday against Arizona is that the Bears took all of the training elements from this week and applied them today," associate head coach Patrick Baker said. "We're very pleased with the win. Oregon came out even stronger in the second half, but we did a nice job of adhering to the game plan."

The Bears scored their earliest goal of the year when Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick converted a penalty kick just 7:36 into the game. Celeste Boureille upped the Bears' advantage to 2-0 with a shot in the 36th.

With the goal, Fitzpatrick has now scored in each of her three career game against Oregon and has five goals over the Ducks thanks to a hat trick notched last year.

"I was thinking before the game - is it just lucky that I score against Oregon or is it that the tactics break down to where that it's easier for me to score against them?" Fitzpatrick pontificated after the win. "The goal felt great today either way. It was a great win today."

Cal outshot Oregon 11-8 with eight of Cal's shots coming in the first half. Duck keeper Abby Steele made two stops in 90 minutes of work while Cal's Emily Kruger had four saves. Fitzpatrick tallied a team-high three shots.

7:36 - Cal 1, Oregon 0:

Fitzpatrick was fouled in the box and she stepped up to take her first collegiate PK. She sent the back to the left side of the net, and the Oregon goalie made no chase.

"I played Sam on the near side, and she did a great job of getting around the defense," Fitzpatrick said. "She applied a lot of pressure and made them defend. I made a slashing run in and they fouled me. I just remembered to stay calm and do what I do in practice, just slot it in. It's close to the goal. It feels amazing.

35:39 - Cal 2, Oregon 0:

Boureille created space, dribbling around her defender and took a left-footed shot.

"I don't normally shoot with my left foot," Boureille said. "It felt pretty great though. I drove the ball to the near post."

Next Time on the Pitch:

Cal takes on Oregon State on Sept. 30 at 1:30 p.m. in a Pac-12 Networks broadcast. The Beavers (9-2-0, 1-1-0 Pac-12) lost 5-1 on Thursday to No. 2 Stanford but in scoring, OSU thwarted the Cardinal's 590-minute, four-match shutout streak.
