Final Stats

FRESNO, Calif. - Behind a strong game from senior attacker Megan Takacs, the California lacrosse team defeated Fresno State, 16-8, Tuesday afternoon at Fresno State. With the win, the Golden Bears (4-3, 3-0) have won four of their last five games and are in first place in the MPSF Conference.

In addition to her four goals, Takacs' 11 draw controls were huge for the Bears in maintaining possession. It was the second time in her career that she notched 11 draws in a single game (April 4, 2012, vs. UC Davis). The 11 draws also tied for second in the MPSF single-game record book. With 116 career goals, she stands in fourth on Cal's all-time career goals list, eight shy of third and nine shy of second.

"Megan was outstanding today on draws and helping us maintain possession," head coach Ginger Miles said. "This was a team win today. Our offense played well, we made clean transitions and our defense made some key stops. This is a scrappy Fresno State team and they battled. It was an all around great team effort by us."

Takacs was not the only Bear to score four goals. Fellow senior attacker Alexa Rozelle also scored four times to give her 10 goals on the season. Rozelle's scores were big because they helped Cal jump out of the gate with a 5-1 lead in the first half. Her fourth goal came in the final minute of the first half to give the Bears momentum into the break with a 9-4 lead.

At the outset of the second half, Takacs, Melissa Humphrey and Paige Gasparino all scored to give the Bears a commanding 12-4 lead.

Sophomore Gaby Christman continued her breakout season with three goals of her own on four shots. Her 14 goals this season rank second on the team. Two of her goals came in the first half to help Cal extend its lead and stranglehold of the contest.

Like Takacs, Humphrey is also climbing Cal's all-time charts. With her two assists today, Humphrey now has 58 for her career which ranks third all-time at Cal. She is five helpers shy of second. Humphrey also scored twice today, as well.

The Bears now take a week off as they prepare for their second East Coast trip of the season. Cal next faces Fairfield on Wednesday, March 27, at noon PT.
