PULLMAN, Wash. - The California Golden Bear women's golf team held on late to win their first tournament of the year at the Washington State Cougar Cup at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club, shooting 877 (291, 290, 296). Senior Jacqueline Williams and freshman Hannah Suh led the Bears by shooting a total of 216 strokes through 54 holes of play, earning the two golfers a tie for second in the tournament.

On today's final 18 holes, it was Suh that led the way. Two birdies on the back nine helped her to post 71 on the day en route to her tie for second overall. Williams was steady as ever. She scored 72 for each 18 en route to her second place tie. Junior Nicola Roessler stumbled a bit on day two, but still scored 220 (73, 72, 75) which was good for ninth in the field. Morgan Thompson was the other Golden Bear scorer, shooting a 225 for the tournament (73, 74, 78) earning her a tie for 19th.

Senior Joi Pentin also competed for the Bears as an individual, and finished the tournament tied for 16th place after posting a score of 224 (72, 75, 77).

"I was really proud of the girls for finishing strong," said head coach Nancy McDaniel. "It was a very windy day at Washington State, but the girls still posted strong scores. It was overall a very solid tournament."

After 36 holes yesterday, Cal held a four shot lead over tournament host Washington State. Williams held a share of the 36-hole lead after posting 144 (72, 72) strokes through the first two rounds.
