No. 5 Cal Pulls Away To Beat No. 10 Spartans

SAN JOSE - Freshman Pippa Saunders and junior Ashley Young scored three goals apiece and senior Emily Csikos closed to within one goal of Cal's all-time lead as the No. 5 Bears beat No. 10 San Jose State 11-8 on Saturday for their first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win of the season.

Young scored the go-ahead goal with five minutes remaining, converting after a steal by senior Dana Ochsner. The Spartans had tied it at 8-8 48 seconds earlier.

Saunders and Ochsner each scored later in the fourth quarter to give the Bears (14-5, 1-3 MPSF) some comfort room.

Senior Breda Vosters and sophomore Michelle Caron also each scored for Cal. Goalie Savanna Smith made six saves for the Bears.

Cal is back in the pool Sunday at home against No. 11 Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. It will be Senior Day at Spieker Aquatics Complex, as the Bears honor their six seniors - Csikos, Vosters, Ochsner, Pippa Saunders 3, Ashley Young 3, Dana Ochsner 2, Michelle Caron, Breda Vosters.
