Head Coach Dave O'Neill recaps the Golden Bears' weekend sweep at Redwood Shores.

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - Second-ranked California women's crew completed the weekend sweep, defeating Northeastern in all three of its races Sunday morning at Redwood Shores.

The Golden Bears, who posted victories in all 10 of their races on Saturday with wins over Oklahoma, Clemson and Stanford, continued their successful weekend on the water Sunday.

The new-look varsity eight opened the day with a time of 6:33.4 down the 2,000-meter course to earn a 20-second victory over Northeastern (6:54.4).

"In the varsity race, we tried a whole new lineup," said Cal head women's crew coach Dave O'Neill. "We talk as a team all the time about being a good adjustable wrench that you can row any seat at any time and everyone is used to the switches. Above everything, our team is focused on doing well for `the team' and I give the women on our team a lot of credit for that."

The second varsity eight raced down the course in 6:40.4 to defeat Northeastern (7:06.1).

Cal's varsity four completed the day on the water for the Bears, recording a time of 7:22.1 to defeat Northeastern (7:58.9) by more than 35 seconds.

"The competition gets pretty tough moving forward," O'Neill said. "Northeastern, Oklahoma and Clemson are good teams and great competition, but from here every time we line up it is most likely going to be against a top-three team in the country. This was a good way to start the year and I think we are in great shape."

Cal will return to action next Saturday and Sunday (April 6-7) at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay.
